Sharon Uwanyuze

Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Research Interests:

Materials processing of refractory ceramics for titanium metallurgy, with emphasis on corrosion and phase transformations.

Education:

B.S Materials Engineering, University of Alabama at Birmingham, 2018

Personal Bio:

Prior to joining this research group in August 2018, Sharon performed ceramic materials research at University of Alabama at Birmingham, and did an internship at Reno Refractories Incorporated. One of her studies was the degradation of silicon carbide in humidified air containing sea salt, and she presented a poster on this work at the DoD corrosion conference in 2017. This experience has paved a way for her to obtain an internship with Oak Ridge national laboratory during summer 2019, where she will be working with silicon carbide cladding for nuclear reactors. Sharon is grateful for opportunities to continue growing as a materials scientist and engineer. She is fascinated by the interconnectedness of structure-processing-properties and performance of materials.
